The Montague Company announces acquisition of Turbo Coil

After more than three years working in strategic partnership, Montague has taken over the award-winning manufacturer

Premier provider of high-end commercial cooking equipment, The Montague Company announced it has acquired Baldwin Park, California-based Turbo Coil Refrigeration Systems, Inc., an award-winning manufacturer of advanced evaporator coils, prep tables, chef bases and more.

The purchase has united two companies well known throughout the foodservice community for their quality, craftsmanship and willingness to push boundaries: Montague with its lineage of over 160 years designing, manufacturing, marketing and selling professional equipment such as Excalibur Cooking Suites, Legend, Vectaire and Technostar brands; and Turbo Coil with innovations that lead the industry in meeting future environmental regulations concerning refrigerants and energy consumption with a unique platform of patented technology centered around the Turbo Coil evaporator coil. These include glycol chef bases, glycol cold rails and glycol prep tables that can function with R290 refrigerant and latest approved refrigerant blends.

Having a strategic alliance for the past three and a half years, Montague has already incorporated Turbo Coil patent-protected technology into key equipment custom suites and products —and with impressive results, as evidenced by the Glycol Ice and Heat Sauté Station, winner of the National Restaurant Association’s (NRA) Kitchen Innovations® 2015 Award. And Turbo Coil is no stranger to the podium, having taken home Kitchen Innovations® Awards for the last four consecutive years, most recently in 2017 for their patent-pending Dual Zone Mega-Top Prep Table.

Applause from the foodservice industry

The acquisition will pave the way for Montague to fully leverage Turbo Coil’s innovative refrigeration expertise and technological prowess, enabling them to continue delivering new styles of time-saving designs that let chefs push the limits of what’s possible. A US manufacturer putting hot and cold together as a single product under one roof to perform and exceed the performance, durability, and reliability expectations of the operator is a natural for a company like Montague that understands the commercial kitchen as one of the harshest environments on earth.

Industry pundits also agree that the decision will be well received by operators, who are looking for technological advantages to improve energy and labor efficiencies while maintaining the critical safe temperatures of hot and cold and compliance with local health and safety inspections to create the tempting dishes that keep discriminating diners coming back for more.

Formal announcement at the NRA Show

Tom Whalen, Montague President and CEO, made a formal announcement of intent at this year’s NRA show in Chicago. “Competition in the restaurant business is fierce, which puts the onus on us to keep delivering cutting edge equipment,” he says. “Embracing and incorporating Turbo Coil’s technology and expertise ensures we can carry on that mission, and will propel us well into the future while continuing the 85 year legacy of a family owned business.”

Hector Delgadillo, Turbo Coil’s CEO, was equally upbeat. “From the very start, Turbo Coil has been a proven innovator, won many awards, and holds many patents that have benefited the foodservice industry,” he says. “We’re excited to be empowered to do more of what we know best as part of the Montague team.” Delgadillo will play a significant role in Montague’s sales organization.
