Show preview: FHA HoReCa is back

As the premier foodservice trade show in the region, FHA HoReCa will reopen its doors in Singapore for the first time since 2018. Here's a look at what delegates can look forward to, including a busy FCSI program

It’s been a long time coming, but this October will finally see the return of FHA HoReCa in Singapore, an opportunity for manufacturers, operators and consultants to get together and explore all that’s new and exciting across the commercial foodservice sector.

FHA HoReCa will take place at Singapore Expo on 25 to 28 October 2022.

“After more than two years with no international travel, we believe the delegates will be eagerly looking forward to attending in person at FHA this year – being the first major international foodservice event in the Asia Pacific region,” says Mario Sequeira FCSI, owner of Total Hospitality Services in Australia and Worldwide president for FCSI.

For the FCSI Asia Pacific Division (APD), veteran and highly regarded FCSI consultant Alburn Williams and Sequeira will oversee a series of events during the show. “Alburn and I are looking forward to re-connecting with industry professionals in our Asia Pacific region especially those from our FCSI global family,” says Sequeira. “Change is occurring across our industry, including a level of disruption that we all need to keep pace with. We are expecting to experience innovation in technology and services that our FCSI Allied Members have been working on.”

The most important business event

“At HoReCa 2022 more than 800 exhibitors from across the world will come together. Innovators in foodservice and hospitality can connect, trade, and discover the latest industry trends,” says Janice Lee, FHA HoReCa event director. “With a 44-year track record, FHA is the most important business event for international suppliers to meet buyers in Asia and beyond.”

FCSI APD will have a dedicated booth to connect with attendees at the show and have planned masterclasses, roundtable events and networking (see below for details).

Sequeira says FHA is an event that should attract interest from well beyond the region. “At a recent FCSI Worldwide strategic planning workshop in London, we discussed the dominance of Asia in the world economy by 2030; we encourage FCSI members not only from APD but also from EAME and TAD to join us at FHA 2022,” he says. “Together we are stronger, together we are better, together we increase our knowledge and experience so we can offer our clients a better service.”

Masterclass on sustainability – food waste management

26 October, 14:30-15:15

Hosted by: Alburn William FCSI, MIH, president, CKP Group; Mario Sequeira FCSI, president,
FCSI Worldwide

Expert Speakers: Dr Michael Meirer, head of consulting, Meiko Green Waste Solutions; Hannes Braun, head of international sales, Meiko Green Waste Solutions

This Masterclass is for anyone who is interested in turning food waste into energy and fertilizer instead of paying for disposal or using a lot of electricity or water to get rid of it. In this masterclass, we will explore what the state of the art is in food waste collection and why anaerobic digestion is the most sustainable method for treating food waste. Anaerobic digestion allows both the energy and the nutrients contained in the surplus and leftovers to be used. The workshop will allow foodservice consultants to understand how the hospitality industry can benefit from this technology. Michael Meirer and Hannes Braun will also touch upon a timescale for when the vision may become reality for commercial kitchens to generate their own energy and fertilizer from food waste.

The Masterclass consists of three parts:

  •   Options for food waste recycling in general
  •    Anaerobic digestion
  •    The commercial kitchen’s perspective on food waste collection and treatment
