Salvajor celebrates 80 years of innovation

Founded in 1944, Salvajor was born out of a groundbreaking idea—a commercial food waste scrapping system designed to prevent silverware from being accidentally discarded while efficiently scrapping dishware

The Salvajor Company is celebrating a remarkable milestone: 80 years of innovation and excellence in the commercial food waste industry. Founded in 1944 by George Hohl Sr., Salvajor was born out of a groundbreaking idea—a commercial food waste scrapping system designed to prevent silverware from being accidentally discarded while efficiently scrapping dishware.

This ingenious invention quickly gained traction, securing a significant government contract for 600 units, and laying a solid foundation for the company’s future success.

George Hohl Sr.’s vision and relentless innovation continued to drive the company forward until the 1970s, when his son, George Hohl Jr., took over the reins. Under his leadership, Salvajor expanded its product line, introducing various new systems designed to meet the evolving needs of the commercial food service industry. The company’s commitment to quality and innovation ensured that its products remained at the forefront of the market.

A legacy of excellence

Fast forward to today, Salvajor’s legacy of excellence is carried on by the third generation of the Hohl family. In 2011, George Hohl’s sons – Chris, Matt, and Greg Hohl – took over the company’s leadership. They have continued to uphold the family’s tradition of innovation, strongly emphasizing sustainability in the dish room. Salvajor’s product line now includes not only the original food waste collector but also advanced disposers and other cutting-edge systems.

Salvajor’s commercial-only products can be found in the nation’s leading restaurants and hotels, as well as in hospitals, cafeterias, schools, sports arenas, catering facilities, universities, and correctional institutions across the country. The company’s commitment to excellence is also reflected in its workforce, with many employees having been part of the Salvajor team for decades.

As Salvajor celebrates its 80th anniversary, it stands as a testament to the enduring vision of its founder and the continued dedication of the Hohl family. The company looks forward to many more years of innovation and success in the commercial food waste management industry.
