Installation of a GRANULDISK pot and pan washing machine helps London Heathrow Marriott Hotel save 2 million litres of annually

London Heathrow Marriott Hotel has been announced as the European winner of the prestigious Green Hotelier Award 2016. Beating competition from a variety of hotel companies, the property was judged the greenest hotel in Europe for innovating and investing in new technology to improve its sustainability and reduce its consumption footprint.

One major contributor to the win was an impressive 92% and 2 million litre water savings annually in the kitchen due to the installation of a GRANULDISK pot and pan washing machine that eliminates any need for pre-washing.

“A GRANULDISK machine offers a great solution for a cleaner and improved work environment. It offers water, chemical and energy savings,” says Sean Kelly, senior executive chef Europe Marriott Hotels Ltd.

Sustainability has always been a focus from Marriott International, who set clear goals on saving energy, reducing water and using sustainable resources.

“Once I learnt some of the benefits of the GRANULDISK equipment, with the potential energy and water savings as well as the process improvements, it made a lot of sense having a truly efficient utensil washer,” says Jim Shields, director of engineering, Marriott Hotels.

GRANULDISK pot washing machines use PowerGranules, water and a small amount of detergent to mechanically scrub pots and pans clean. The blasting power combined with high temperatures washes hygienically clean in a matter of minutes, using up to 90% less water, energy and chemicals than any other pot washing methods. A smart, sustainable and economic solution – eliminating pre-washing. GRANULDISK pot washing machines are a Swedish innovation which have been on the international market for nearly 30 years. The Sandberg family has been investing since the start.
