In an exclusive live interview at the FCSI EAME booth at HostMilano 2025, Middleby’s chief commercial officer Steve Spittle discussed a wide range of topics with Michael Jones of FCSI’s Foodservice Consultant magazine.
The interview recording, which you can watch below, takes in the impact of geopolitical changes, evolving customer trends, and cutting-edge new innovation that will take foodservice and hospitality into 2026, and beyond.
“We’re very fortunate that we’re in a very sustainable industry,” says Spittle. “There’s going to be slight ebbs and flows to it, but the ‘we all have to eat’ part of the industry is part of why I’ll always be excited by it. And from a data standpoint, Technomic has done a lot of studies on this and if you go back and look at the number of global restaurants – and their total sales dollars – that closed during Covid, then it’s been on a steady [recovery] since then,” he adds.
“It’s still a long way before we’re back to a full recovery – Technomic has [the sector] at 2028 before we’re at a full recovery – but I’m excited about that because, even though things have trended better since Covid, I feel like there’s this great runway in front of us… There’s still this inherent recovery that we’re going through.”
