Global coffee shop market set to hit $290.23bn by 2032
The global coffee shop market was valued at $228.12bn in 2025 and is projected to reach $290.23bn by 2032, rising at an annual rate of 3.5%, according to a report by Maximize Market Research. Chains like Starbucks, Dunkin’, Costa Coffee, Tim Hortons and McCafé continue to lead the market, with growth being driven by increasing coffee consumption, urbanization and shifting consumer preferences for specialty and premium café experiences. North America remains the largest regional market, with US coffee shops valued at around $36bn across 37,189 locations. The US is also the largest coffee importer globally, with Starbucks generating $19.16bn in revenue despite pandemic-related setbacks.
Chipotle exceeds quarterly earnings, but reports falling traffic following a challenging 2025
Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc reported quarterly earnings and revenue that exceeded Wall Street expectations, but restaurant traffic continues to decline. Revenue came in at $2.98bn, compared with expectations of $2.96bn, while comparable restaurant sales fell 2.5% in the quarter, marking the fourth consecutive period of declining traffic. The company said it expects flat comparable restaurant sales growth in 2026, suggesting recent traffic challenges may continue. Chipotle CEO Scott Boatwright said the company delivered record restaurant openings and revenue growth in 2025 despite a “dynamic consumer backdrop.” “This momentum will fuel our next phase of growth, driven by our ‘Recipe for Growth’ strategy, which leans into what uniquely differentiates our brand to accelerate transactions and expand our footprint globally.”
