Michael, general manager of Flatow & Drews Consulting, had been a member of FCSI since 2001 and was approaching his 25‑year anniversary as a professional member of FCSI D‑A‑CH in 2026. Over the decades, he made an exceptional contribution to our association and to the international hospitality industry.
In the early 2000s, Michael served for many years as treasurer of FCSI EAME, playing a crucial role in the stability and growth of the organization. His commitment, integrity and deep sense of responsibility left a lasting mark on FCSI.
Michael’s professional career was truly international. He was involved in major hospitality and foodservice projects across the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Iran, as well as numerous landmark projects in Europe.
His work included contributions to renowned hotels such as The Fontenay in Hamburg, Andaz Munich, Breidenbacher Hof in Düsseldorf, and high‑profile developments at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin, where he played a key role in projects for the Ritz‑Carlton, Marriott and Grand Hyatt. The Grand Hyatt Berlin was among the first hotels to introduce an open kitchen concept — an example of Michael’s forward‑thinking approach.
From a young age, Michael was deeply connected to hospitality. As a student, he was already the owner of several boutique hotels in Berlin. As an independent kitchen planner since the 1980s, he remained professionally active and passionately involved in the industry well into later life.
Michael’s career reflected the core values of FCSI: professionalism, international cooperation, innovation and dedication. He will be remembered as a role model, a trusted colleague and an inspiration to many within our community.
On behalf of FCSI EAME, the office team, the board and all members, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
Michael will be greatly missed.
