Anna Hansen, the Canadian-born chef behind The Modern Pantry, is helping London’s LimeWharf launch its first ‘Eat the World’ pop-up kitchen in London’s east end this week. The aim of the event is to trigger debate and conversations around the future of food, and the qualities of nature in relation to food.

Guests will be invited to dine around the Worldscape, a colossal sculpted table designed by architect Alex Haw to mirror the world’s geographic contours.

The thematic pop-up kitchen will also feature special musical performances, commissioned events and digital installations each night, with the guests encouraged to engage in lively debate and conversation.

Canadian-born chef Anna Hansen opened The Modern Pantry in 2008, has since gained two AA rosettes from 2008 through 2012 and been listed as a “Bib Gourmand” in the Michelin Guide 2009. In 2011 her first book, The Modern Pantry Cookbook, was published to critical acclaim. She was awarded an MBE in the 2012 New Year’s Honours List for her services to the restaurant industry.

The three-week event will also include an eclectic mix of musical entertainment, including the London Contemporary Orchestra, sound artist David Coulter, who will be playing Jews harp along with a musical saw, and Gregor Ridell, composer, cellist and founder member of the Solstice String Quartet, who will be performing on 20 March.

Organisers say the entertainment at Lime Wharf will be “a musical exploration of resonance – playing with time, space and an exploration of emotions which alongside guest speakers and digital installations will provide a sensual scenography to enhance the dining experience”. They promise that “all lovers of radical creativity should find their senses and minds saturated”.

This is the first of a series of biannual three-week events. LimeWharf, which is a Hackney-based canalside gallery and cultural centre in the heart of East London’s creative quarter, will open in 2013.
