Food&HotelAsia opens its doors for the 40th year

Event director Rodolphe Lameyse speaks to Tina Nielsen about the 2018 edition of Asia’s largest business event for food an hospitality industries

When FHA 2018 kicks off next week, it will welcome visitors to two venues for the first time – exhibitors will be spread across Singapore Expo and Suntec Singapore. This development is a reflection of the growth of the food and hospitality industry and will bring more trade visitors and exhibitors; 78,000 attendees are expected along 3,500 exhibitors.

“Every edition of FHA brings a lot of new things and this year we are welcoming new visitors and exhibitors in all areas of the show,” says Lameyse (pictured left). “In Suntec Singapore, which is where you will find all the foodservice equipment, technology is taking a larger and larger place within the exhibitor areas and the products they are showcasing.”

As part of this trend there will be an opportunity to visit what organisers have called restaurant 3.0, which will have on show the latest technology and how it is going to be used to order food in the future. “That is going to be impressive,” says Lameyse. “Singapore always likes to showcase the latest technology and be on the edge of innovation so I am sure there will be showcasing some fancy solutions.”

Lameyse urges attendees to attend some of the many competitions taking place at the show. “Because it is fun and entertaining but also because it is the best place to see in real life cooking in competitions,” he says.

Along with the usual competitions at FHA there will this year be the Asian gelato cup, which will see 12 national teams competing; the winner will be going to the gelato world cup in Rimini. “This is an area of interest and a particular trend in Asia and south east Asia and the gelato zones will showcase the latest equipment, innovation and products in a genuinely rising industry,” says Lameyse.

In this year’s new format Singapore Suntec will be occupied by foodservice equipment exhibitors. “This is where you’ll find the kitchen hardware, the equipment like washing machines, ovens, bleneders – all the equipment at the back of the house,” says Lameyse.

Singapore Expo, meanwhile, will have all the bakery and pastry and the speciality cooking, including the gelato area, which will also include some components of the foodservice equipment.

FHA 2018 is also partnering with Euromonitor to unveil a survey on how the food industry is going to look by 2020 and the innovations associated with these developments.

FHA 2018 will take place 24-27 April. Bakery & Pastry, FoodAsia, HospitalityStyleAsia, HospitalityTechnology and SpecialityCoffee&Tea will be located at Singapore Expo while HotelAsia will take place at Suntec Singapore.
