Winners announced for Traulsen and Hobart’s 2019 Save Your Kitchen equipment giveaway

Traulsen & Hobart Wrap 2019 Save Your Kitchen Contest with Early Holiday Delivery to Louisiana High School

Christmas came early to the Central Community School System (CCSS) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the final winner of Traulsen and Hobart’s 2019 Save Your Kitchen equipment giveaway.

Traulsen, the leader in commercial refrigeration, and Hobart, manufacturer of premium commercial and institutional foodservice equipment, got the chance to play Santa Claus on Dec. 13 when CCSS took delivery of its kitchen equipment prize package.

The school district won the last of four drawings in this year’s Save Your Kitchen sweepstakes, a contest open to K-12 child nutrition professionals in the 50 states and Washington, D.C., offering the chance to win commercial refrigeration, dishwashing and food preparation equipment from the Traulsen and Hobart brands.

As the winning entrant of the Oct. 18 drawing, held in honor of National School Lunch Week, the district’s Central High School unwrapped a Traulsen One-Section Reach-In Freezer and a limited edition (red) Hobart Legacy 20-quart HL 200 Mixer.

A tremendous success

Four school districts in the Midwest and South won this year’s giveaway. The first drawing, held in March in honor of National School Breakfast Week, saw the Harlem School District in Machesney Park, Illinois, win.

The second drawing, held in May on School Lunch Hero Day, was won by the Taylor County School District in Butler, Georgia. In July, Foley Public Schools in Foley, Minnesota, won the third and largest drawing of the year, which included a Hobart dishmachine. The July drawing was held in celebration of the School Nutrition Association Annual National Conference in St. Louis.

“The 2019 Save Your Kitchen contest was a tremendous success, and we’re so happy we could wrap it up during the holiday season,” said Hailey Elting, Sales Development Manager and K-12 Specialist at Traulsen.

“Thanks to the contest, four winning schools were able to incorporate new, best-in-class equipment into their kitchens that will help them prepare nutritious food for thousands of students every day.”

This year’s contest offered the chance to win a variety of professional kitchen equipment. From the Traulsen brand, schools could choose from a One-Section Reach-In Refrigerator (RHT132WUT), a One-Section Pass-Thru Refrigerator (RHT132WPUT), a One-Section Reach-In Freezer (RLT132WUT) or an eight-crate Milk Cooler (RMC34S4). From the Hobart brand, each school had the opportunity to choose from an HCC34 Food Processor, an EDGE 13A-11 Slicer or a limited edition (red) 20-quart Legacy HL 200 Mixer. A third prize choice from Hobart’s warewashing equipment was also included for the July drawing.

Facing high demand for school nutrition services since an August 2016 flood damaged 85 percent of the region’s homes and businesses, administrators from CCSS were ecstatic to have won the year’s final drawing.

At the high school, the child nutrition staff serves around 350 students for breakfast and more than 1,000 for lunch. That demand caused a freezer storage issue for the school, which is why they chose Traulsen’s R-Series Reach-In Freezer. The one-section R-Series features 36 cubic feet of storage space and advanced technology like Traulsen’s StayClear™ Condenser coil and advanced Smart Control.

The Central High School kitchen staff also unboxed an HL 200 Mixer. A countertop workhorse, the HL 200 features a heavy duty ½ horsepower motor, three fixed speeds plus a stir speed, Shift-on-theFly™ controls, and a large, ergonomic swing-out bowl. Prior to winning, the school did not have a countertop mixer. It plans to use it for making salad dressings, blending spices and preparing small batches of items for special diets.

“I am overwhelmed with the win and excited to see how it will help my school,” said Janan Noland, a child nutrition specialist at Central High School who entered the district in the contest. “Truthfully, when they called I thought that they were playing a joke on me.”
