Helping make guests and employees safer

Halton is offering restaurant solutions with Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation to help make guests and employees safer by reducing the risk of virus spread

Halton’s Health Segment, which provides ventilation solutions for operating and isolation rooms, has done extensive research in the area of airborne transmission of infectious diseases. Halton Food Service has leveraged this knowledge to create several products that, when combined with other mitigation approaches as outlined by the CDC, work to reduce the risk of virus spread.

Those mitigation methods include social distancing, wearing face masks, and washing your hands, to name a few.

Covid-19 and other influenza viruses have caused significant disruption in our everyday life, especially in the foodservice industry. Restaurants and food service establishments are challenged with new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines in order to reopen their businesses. Solutions that enable safer conditions for guests and employees mitigating the risk of virus spread are under consideration.

It is well documented that the virus is spread primarily through the air and on surfaces. Halton is offering several solutions to reduce the risk of virus spread, helping restaurants and facility owners meet these guidelines. Halton’s SafeGuard UVGI products address airborne and fomite (surface) contamination.

What is Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI)?

It is invisible UV-C light at the 254nm wavelength, which does not produce ozone. UV-C  light spectrum has been used for over a century to inactivate microorganisms, including viruses and bacteria.

UV light has been regularly used as a disinfectant and has a long history as a tool for minimizing viral spread. From the first UV water treatment plant in 1909 to the recommendation of UV for Tuberculosis (TB) by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1999, UV has an integral role to play in mitigating virus spread.

Halton SafeGuard UVGI Solutions incorporate Ultraviolet Germidical Irradiation. Restaurant owners, facility managers and alike can now retrofit, or design for new construction to include UVGI Return Air Grills, UVGI Overhead Lights or UVGI Stand-alone mobile filtration units as appropriate.
