In memoriam: Virginia Antunes

Antunes has announced its chairman of the board and wife of founder August J. ‘Augie’ Antunes, Virginia M. Antunes passed away on 10 November 2018, aged 92. Virginia Antunes served on the board since 1963 and as chairman of the Board since 1990.

“I was so blessed to see my mom’s strong will to live. I was able to spend so much time with her these last several months,” said Jane Antunes Bullock, VP of administration at Antunes. “She died peacefully knowing that she was well loved.”

“An amazing woman”

Antunes CEO Glenn Bullock adds, “Virginia was an amazing and strong woman who carried on Augie’s legacy. She came into the office until she was 86 continuing the passion that Augie portrayed.”

Virginia Antunes, nee Manion, was born and raised in Chicago and later lived in Elmhurst, Ilinois. She and Augie Antunes married on 14 July 1945, and had two children, James (wife: Peggy) and Jane (Glenn) Antunes. She had eight grandchildren: Andrea Antunes, Genis (Daniel) Schmidt, Nicholas (Alysia) Bullock, Sarah Bullock, Valerie (Greg) Koch, Brett (Suman) Bullock, Genevieve Antunes, and the late the Cynthia Antunes. She also had five great-grandchildren and was the sister of the late Rosemarie (George) Czerwinski and the loving aunt of many nieces and nephews.

The wake for Virginia Antunes will be held on Tuesday 13 November at Ahlgrim Funeral Home (567 Spring Road, Elmhurst, IL) from 2 to 8 pm. Prayers on Wednesday 14 November at 8:45 am at Ahlgrim Funeral Home and Mass at Visitation Catholic Church (851 S. York St, Elmhurst, IL) at 9:15 am. For more information, please visit
