The World’s 50 Best announces details for Bilbao awards

The World's 50 Best Restaurants continues its global tour as details for 2018 edition in Bilbao are revealed, reports Tina Nielsen

After celebrating the awards ceremony in New York in 2016 and Melbourne in 2017, The World’s 50 Best Restaurants will take place in Bilbao, Spain, this summer. The evening of 19 June will see chefs from across the world gathering in Biscay, in the Basque Country, home to acclaimed restaurants including Arzak and Azurmendi.

A comprehensive programme

Over the last 15 years the awards, sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna, have grown into a comprehensive programme of talks, discussions and networking.

In Bilbao the flagship ceremony announcing the list of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2018 will take place at the imposing Euskalduna Centre on 19 June and includes a red-carpet reception and post-awards celebration party. The star-studded evening will be preceded by 50BestTalks, a culinary thought-leadership conference exploring food developments, restaurant trends and chefs’ stories, which takes place at the Basque Culinary Center in San Sebastian on 17 June.

A passion for food

“After recent editions of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants in New York and Melbourne, we could not be more thrilled to be returning to Europe to host our event programme in Bilbao, one of the great food destinations of the world, in 2018. Come June, Biscay will undoubtedly be the place to be for those passionate about great food and inspirational restaurants,” says William Drew, group editor of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants.

A series of special awards, as well as the recipient of 50 Best’s inaugural scholarship, will be announced ahead of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants event programme. These include the Diners Club Lifetime Achievement Award;  thee elit® Vodka World’s Best Female Chef Award; and the Miele One To Watch Award.
